Teeth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental procedure used to light up the natural color of your teeth. Because having brighter teeth has now became the number one aesthetic concern of most patients, there are a number of ways to whiten your teeth.
The most popular method is the tray technique. The dentist make a customized silicon tray so the patient use them at home. It’s been proved to last longer than laser bleaching but has the inconvenient of using the trays for 4h/day during 1 week or so.
Laser whitening can be done in a single visit (40 min.) and has the inconvenient of targeting more sensitivity than the tray technique. It’s a good option for non-residents, brides or for those in need of fast results.
Since teeth whitening only works on the enamel, it is important to evaluate the need for replacing any old fillings, crowns, etc. Replacement of any restorations will be done after whitening so they match the new bleached shade. Teeth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up may be required every several years, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine.
